COMMUNITY IN ACTION
December 2025 · Jack Edwards Reserve, Oakleigh
When mates show up: how a group of teenagers brought a community together for MSA
It started with a simple idea: get your mates together, play some football, and do something that matters. What Kingston Ezard and his friends pulled off in December 2025 was far more than a kick around. It was a statement - that age is no barrier to making a real difference.
Organised by a group of 15 and 16-year-olds, the charity football match brought Oakleigh Hellas up against SKFC at Jack Edwards Reserve in Oakleigh. The multicultural clash had been building under the radar for a while, a genuine rivalry finally brought into the open and the boys made sure the moment meant something bigger than three points.
Players Lambros Charalambous, Kingston Ezard, Adam Di Carlo and Thomas Priftis, led the charge both on and off the pitch. The event drew press coverage in Neos Kosmos, the Oakleigh Greek community newspaper, shining a spotlight on both the match and the cause.
The result? Greater awareness of MSA and $2235 raised for Combat MSA, every single dollar going toward funding life-changing research into Multiple System Atrophy. Not bad for a group of teenagers who just decided to show up.

A table, a footpath, and a whole lot of heart
A family effort for Combat MSA
No venue. No ticket sales. No sponsorship. Just a mum, her daughters, a table on the footpath, and a pile of homemade baked goods all in the name of Combat MSA.
This is grassroots fundraising at its most genuine. Neighbours stopped. Strangers bought. And every dollar raised went straight toward funding research into Multiple System Atrophy, a disease that desperately needs more awareness and more support.
It's a powerful reminder that you don't need to think big to make a big difference. Sometimes the most meaningful acts happen right where you are.
