The Why
After graduating high school, life begins to move pretty quickly, you start to forget what your life at school was like, but you never forget those teachers who made a true impact on you during your time at school.
Kate Krieg (or Ms Krieg) as I have always known her, was exactly one of those teachers. I could write about her for hours but I will keep it to this. She seemingly had endless amounts of time for her students, she was always checking in and making sure we were going well. But most importantly, she was the role model we all needed. Kindness, generosity, caring and passionate are all words that can be used to describe Ms Krieg. But I don’t think those words do her justice, she is one of those people who make the world a better place, and everyone surrounded by her knows that.
My fellow classmates and I, who she has had over her teaching career, owe a lot to Ms Krieg, especially now after her MSA diagnosis. We have been so lucky to have a person give us such a positive impact in our lives, and I feel that this is the least I can do to repay her for everything she has given us.
Talking to Ms Krieg and her family, we have found CombatMSA, and I am going to try and raise $5000 dollars for the foundation. In doing so, on the 3rd of October (Which also happens to be World MSA Awareness Day) I will be undertaking the Karnu Rally, a 1200km off-road bike-packing race, fully self-supported from Adelaide into the Southern Flinders Ranges, with all of my clothes, shelter, food and water strapped to my push bike.
The Karnu Rally has intrigued me ever since I first saw it on Instagram. A long, self-supported, off-road bikepacking race through my home state. I was sold. My goal this year for the Karnu is to complete the course as fast as I can, hopefully coming in under 6 days. I will add the tracking details once they become available, so those who are keen, can track my progress.

As MSA is currently incurable, I want to do this so that we can create overall awareness for the disease, hopefully make more people aware of the impacts it has, and help fund research for a cure.
